The Presidency has refuted claims suggesting the replacement of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), describing the reports as baseless and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday, June 28, 2025, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency confirmed that Akume remains the SGF and that no new appointment has been made.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia on an official engagement, has not announced any changes regarding the office of the SGF.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it. Nigerians are advised to disregard the fake news,” the statement emphasized.
The Presidency urged the public and media outlets to verify information from credible sources before dissemination.
