The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, over the alleged murder of her co-wife, 30-year-old Zainab Lawal, in Daura Local Government Area.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the tragic incident occurred on the night of May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura town. The suspect is believed to have fatally stabbed the victim during a domestic altercation.
Police received a distress report around 11:00 p.m. from the husband, Nasir Yusuf, who returned home from the market to discover Zainab lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. Officers from the Sabon Gari Division promptly responded and rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where she was confirmed dead.
The suspect, who resides in the same household, was arrested shortly after the incident and reportedly confessed to the crime. Police say she admitted to stabbing her co-wife following a heated disagreement that turned violent.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, has condemned the act and called on members of the public to avoid domestic violence and always seek peaceful and lawful resolutions to conflicts.
The police say investigations are ongoing.
