Senator Muntari Muhammad Dandutse, representing Funtua Senatorial District, has outlined major development projects and community empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the lives of his constituents.
Speaking at a press briefing at Hillside Royal Suites, Katsina, on Friday, February 28, ahead of a scheduled distribution of food items and economic empowerment materials on Saturday, the senator detailed his contributions to various sectors, including infrastructure, education, and security.
Senator Dandutse, who previously served as chairman of a local government and a member of the House of Representatives, highlighted his achievements in infrastructure development. He noted the construction of 1,000 shops, 40 housing units, and 320 classroom blocks in Funtua. Additionally, he facilitated the construction of 150 kilometers of roads, markets, abattoirs, and healthcare centers.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on TETFUND and vice chairman of the Northwest Development Commission, Dandutse played a key role in establishing the University of Health and Medical Sciences in Funtua. He revealed that over ₦3 billion had been allocated for its construction, with an additional ₦5.7 billion included in the 2025 budget and ₦5 billion secured from TETFUND.
“This university will significantly enhance medical education in Katsina and the Northwest region,” he stated.
In an effort to support youth employment, Senator Dandutse introduced a POS business scheme in collaboration with Taj Bank. He disclosed that within four months, the initiative had recorded ₦450 million in transactions, benefiting 400 young entrepreneurs.
Additionally, 300 youths received ₦100,000 each for fish farming, while motorcycles and tricycles were distributed to party officials and security personnel. To further boost agriculture, he provided 15,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers and earmarked ₦150 million to support 1,000 small-scale entrepreneurs.
Addressing security concerns, Dandutse donated Hilux patrol vehicles and motorcycles to vigilante groups and provided motorbikes to police and civil defense officers to enhance rural security operations.
He also emphasized his commitment to education by advocating for JAMB examination centers in all local government areas within his constituency to ease access for students.
Looking ahead, the senator announced plans to establish an agro-processing factory in Funtua, aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating employment opportunities for youths.
On Saturday, March 1—coinciding with the first day of Ramadan—Senator Dandutse distributed bags of rice, 350 motorcycles, 1000 sewing machines, and grinding machines across the 11 local government areas he represents, further reinforcing his commitment to community welfare.
He urged continued collaboration between leaders and residents to achieve sustainable development in Katsina State.
