The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed has urged Corps Employers nationwide to step up their welfare packages for Corps Members serving in their establishments.

He said this would boost their morale for higher productivity and also cushion the effects of the present economic situation.

General Ahmed stated this when the Acting Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service, CG Sylvester Nwakuche paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.

The DG lauded the service, for its roles as a social worker that reforms the inmates before leaving the custodial centres.

He said Corps Lawyers under the Legal Aids CDS group have been offering free legal services to inmates and have also secured freedom for some inmates.

The Acting Controller General, who reminisced on his service year in Kaduna as a Corps Member while speaking earlier, commended the Scheme for its deployment policy,  describing it as a tool of fostering national unity and integration.

He said the collaboration with NYSC would improve the service delivery of the correctional service.

He thereafter requested for the deployment of Corps Doctors Psychologists, Corps Lawyers and other professionals that would boost the manpower of the correctional service, which the DG assented to.
