KABUL – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed deep concern to his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen on Monday regarding the rising civilian casualties resulting from Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. He voiced China’s distress over the situation and condemned any actions that harm civilians, emphasizing the importance of upholding international law.

China has consistently criticized the increasing violence in the Levantine region, especially since the conflict began with the Hamas-led operation known as “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7th. Wang Yi stressed the need to prevent further escalation and mitigate the humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing conflict.

Furthermore, Wang emphasized China’s support for a two-state solution, aligning with the international community’s consensus on this matter. He called on both sides to consider the long-term interests of peace and security for future generations, urging a return to the path of the two-state solution, resumption of peace talks, and the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel.

In a separate conversation with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, Wang highlighted the urgent need for security, food, and medical aid for the people of Gaza, rather than an escalation of conflict and military supplies.

Wang Yi has engaged in discussions with other regional authorities to express China’s disapproval of Israel’s actions during the conflict. He emphasized that Israel’s actions have gone beyond self-defense and called on Israel to heed the international community’s call to cease collective punishment in Gaza.

China has been actively monitoring the conflict and has made diplomatic efforts to mediate a ceasefire. The country dispatched a special envoy, Zhai Jun, to the West Asia region to facilitate an end to the ongoing war. Zhai Jun has expressed China’s willingness to do whatever is necessary to promote peace and restore a ceasefire among the conflicting parties.
