Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqa Rabe Darma, has inaugurated a political support group known as Grassroots Mobilization for Tinubu and Dikko (GMTD) to mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda ahead of future electoral activities.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held in Katsina on Sunday, Darma pledged to work closely with the leadership and members of the organisation, assuring them of commitment, trust and cooperation in pursuing the group’s objectives.
The minister stated that the GMTD was established specifically to strengthen mobilisation efforts in support of President Tinubu and Governor Radda, adding that plans were underway for a formal opening of the organisation’s office in the state.
According to him, the event would attract prominent political figures, including Governor Radda and other stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We are committed to this project and will continue to work towards achieving its goals as circumstances permit,” Darma said.
He urged the newly inaugurated officials of the group to remain patient, dedicated and hardworking in order to achieve success.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of GMTD, Abubakar Soja Tsanni, described Darma as his foremost political mentor and praised his longstanding support and encouragement throughout his political journey.
Tsanni also acknowledged Nura Khalil as another key political figure he greatly admired, stressing the need to remain steadfast in supporting the political advancement of Darma.
He recounted how the minister had supported and motivated him politically since his days in military service.
Also speaking at the event, the member representing Rimi/Charanchi/Batagarawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Usman Murtala Banye, commended the initiative and lauded the increasing involvement of political support groups in grassroots mobilisation.
Banye described Darma as a veteran political activist dating back to the era of late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, noting that he had consistently supported young people regardless of financial circumstances.
He stressed that with the country approaching another election cycle, the support and participation of youths would be critical, adding that organisations such as GMTD play an important role in political mobilisation.
The event was attended by newly inaugurated executives of the organisation and several political stakeholders from Katsina Local Government Area, including Katsina State House of Assembly member Abubakar Albaba and Katsina Local Government Chairman Isa Miqdad, among others.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the GMTD office located along Daura Road in Katsina on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
