Helen Keller International has sought closer collaboration with the Katsina State Ministry of Information to strengthen public awareness campaigns on healthcare and nutrition interventions across the state.
A delegation led by the organisation’s Programme Coordinator, Dr. Yusuf, paid a courtesy visit to the ministry on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The team was received on behalf of the Commissioner for Information by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Tukur Dan-Ali Hassan.
Speaking during the meeting, Hassan said the state government closely monitors developmental activities across all sectors, particularly health, and remains committed to supporting organisations contributing positively to the welfare of citizens.
He explained that the Commissioner for Information was unable to personally receive the delegation due to the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
According to him, the ministry considered the visit important and directed senior officials and directors to engage with the delegation in order to strengthen cooperation.
Hassan assured the organisation of the ministry’s readiness to support its public enlightenment activities through state-owned and private media platforms operating in the state.
He disclosed that the ministry would work with the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health and media organisations to provide airtime for sensitisation programmes, interviews and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting public health initiatives.
“The state government is ready to support every organisation contributing to development in sectors such as health, education, water resources and other critical areas,” he said.
Earlier, Dr. Yusuf said the organisation has been operating in Katsina State since 2014, supporting efforts to eliminate neglected tropical diseases and improve nutrition.
He said the organisation’s interventions cover diseases such as lymphatic filariasis, trachoma, schistosomiasis, bilharzia and intestinal worms across all 34 local government areas of the state.
According to him, Helen Keller International has supported more than 50 million treatments against neglected tropical diseases in the state and played a major role in the elimination of trachoma as a public health problem in previously affected local government areas.
Dr. Yusuf added that the organisation recently expanded its interventions to include nutrition programmes in six additional local government areas.
He stressed the importance of collaboration with the Ministry of Information to enhance awareness creation, community sensitisation and media engagement on healthcare programmes across the state.
The programme coordinator further appealed for support in securing airtime for live radio programmes, health campaigns and public sensitisation activities aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for residents.
