Katsina Times | Kano, April 28, 2026 —
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulsalam Abdulkarim-Zaura, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kano Central senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, pledging to restore what he described as the district’s lost political and economic relevance.
Abdulkarim-Zaura made the declaration on Monday in Kano, stating that his ambition is driven by a desire to address what he termed years of inadequate representation in the senatorial district.
He said his candidacy would focus on reversing social challenges such as drug abuse, youth restiveness and thuggery, while promoting sustainable development across the constituency.
“I formally declare my intention to seek the mandate to serve the people of Kano Central in the Senate under the platform of the APC,” he said.
The senatorial hopeful described his bid as a “call to purposeful representation,” adding that he aims to reposition Kano Central as a hub of national relevance through effective lawmaking and strategic development initiatives.
He outlined plans to expand access to quality education, promote digital innovation, and invest in vocational training to equip young people with globally competitive skills.
Abdulkarim-Zaura also pledged to facilitate federal support for infrastructure development, including roads, housing—particularly for vulnerable groups—and rural development projects.
On the economy, he said he would champion legislation to boost agriculture, strengthen food security and improve nutrition, noting that these sectors remain critical to the local economy.
He emphasised that improving security would be central to his agenda, describing it as a prerequisite for economic growth and community stability.
Abdulkarim-Zaura called on party stakeholders and constituents to support his aspiration to secure the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
