The Lado Development Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education by awarding thousands of scholarships to students of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina.
The screening exercise was conducted on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, with large numbers of applicants in attendance. Names of successful candidates will be released on Wednesday, August 20, followed by payment of tuition support to those selected.
Programme Coordinator of the Foundation, Comrade Gali Salisu Bakori, said the initiative is designed to support underprivileged students and those with special needs across Nigeria.
“We have consistently extended scholarships to different institutions across the country. At UMYU alone, 372 students benefited in 2023, 813 in 2024, and 1,113 in the first half of 2025. This year, our target is to reach more than 2,000 students,” Bakori stated.
He added that other universities, including Bayero University Kano, have also benefited from the scholarship scheme.
UMYU Registrar, Malam Muhammad Yusuf, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, commended the Foundation for its impactful intervention.
“This initiative does not only benefit the university but society as a whole. Whoever is blessed by God has a responsibility to support others. As Muslims and Hausas, we believe in helping one another and carrying the burden of our community,” Yusuf said.
He further explained that the scholarship aligns with the efforts of the Katsina State Government, which owns the university, by reducing the financial burden on parents.
The Registrar confirmed that the university, through the Dean of Student Affairs Office, will collaborate with the Foundation to ensure transparency in the selection process.
Founded by philanthropist Alhaji Yakubu Lado Danmarke, the Lado Development Foundation has become a beacon of hope for students lacking financial capacity across Nigeria.
Through scholarships and other educational initiatives, the Foundation continues to bridge funding gaps and expand equal opportunities for learning, setting a new milestone in student support within Katsina State and beyond.
