In an exclusive interview with Katsina Times, former Secretary to the Katsina State Government under Governor Aminu Bello Masari, Alhaji Muntari Lawal, stated that anyone who prefers military rule over democracy is not patriotic. He made this assertion on Monday during a conversation at his residence in GRA, Katsina City.
Muntari emphasized that despite public impatience for immediate changes from the new administration, it is crucial to give the government time to deliver on its mandates. "This is just the first year of the new government, and when the APC administration started, results were not instant. Therefore, there is no reason to expect immediate visible change from the current government," he remarked. He further urged patience, explaining that the desired transformations would come with time.
Response to Former Katsina SSG
Muntari Lawal responded to recent remarks by former Katsina State Government Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, who criticized the APC government and implied a preference for military rule. Muntari dismissed these comments as inaccurate, highlighting that the APC was responsible for bringing democratic governance to the forefront. "We founded the APC and have ensured its progress to date. I cannot say that military rule is superior," he stated.
He called on the public to be patient and not rush to conclusions, affirming that Nigeria's future would be brighter if the government is given the space to operate effectively.
Security Issues in Katsina State
Touching on security concerns in Katsina State, Muntari praised the efforts of the previous administration under Aminu Bello Masari, particularly in combating terrorism and kidnappings. He acknowledged the successes achieved but noted the lack of cooperation from neighboring states, which hindered the overall security progress.
"Regarding security under the new government, there have been victories, such as the elimination of notorious kidnappers like Habibu Sububu. However, the challenge is that when one area is secured, the problem resurfaces elsewhere. There needs to be stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments to address these issues effectively," Muntari said.
A Call for Unity and Patience
In conclusion, Muntari Lawal urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the government, stressing that unity is the key to overcoming the challenges Nigeria is currently facing.
