On the morning of Thursday, August 1, 2024, youths from various parts of Katsina city organized a peaceful protest under the banner #EndBadGovernmentInNigeria.

The protest began around 9:00 AM at the palace of the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmuminu Kabir Usman. From there, the protesters marched towards the Government Reserved Area (GRA) and headed to the Katsina State Government House.

Upon reaching the government house junction, the protesters paused, and journalists interviewed them about the reasons behind their demonstration.

Shortly after, some miscreants attempted to turn the peaceful protest into a violent confrontation. Clashes ensued between the security forces and the miscreants as the latter tried to storm the government house.

Security personnel employed tear gas, fired shots into the air, and used hot water cannons in an effort to disperse the miscreants and quell the unrest.

Despite the measures taken by the security forces, the situation remained tense as protesters and security personnel faced off. The protest, which began as a peaceful demonstration, highlighted the growing frustration among the youth over governance issues in Nigeria. The escalation into violence underscored the challenges faced by authorities in maintaining order while addressing the grievances of the populace.

Authorities have called for calm and urged protesters to maintain peace while assuring them that their concerns would be addressed through appropriate channels. The incident has drawn significant attention to the ongoing dissatisfaction with the government and the urgent need for reforms to address the issues raised by the protesters.
