The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Katsina State chapter, is calling on farmers in the state to use the best kind of seeds that can withstand the weather condition in their various Local Government Areas in the upcoming rainy season farming.

The State AFAN Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ya'u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo made the call in a statement made available  to newsmen in Katsina.

He urged farmers to be guided by the NIMET prediction for this year's rainy season which was released recently by the agency.

Gwajo-gwajo advised farmers in the state to start planting their crops early, as the 2024 rainy season will be delayed in the state.

The AFAN Chairman explained that NIMET's forecast shows that in Katsina state, rainfall will start in Funtua zone from 5th June and end on the 27th of October.

He quoted the agency's rainfall forecast in Daura zone which shows that rainfall will start from the 25th of June and end on the 15th of October while in Katsina zone, it will start from the 12th of June to the 19th of October.

Gwajo-gwajo therefore urged farmers in the state to plan their farming activities in line with the NIMET forecast and seek guidance from agricultural extension agents in the 34 Local Government Areas in order to have good yield in the 2024 wet season farming.

Similarly, the AFAN Chairman acknowledged the effort of the state Governor, Malam Dikko Radda for recruiting seven hundred and twenty two extension agents and giving them motorcycles in order to enlighten farmers on modern farming techniques.

He also thanked the Governor for his plans to provide fertilizer worth N10 billion which will be distributed to farmers in the state.

Gwajo-Gwajo expressed confidence that the state government will continue to assist farmers with modern farming implements to mechanize agriculture in the state

The AFAN Chairman called on people of the state to continue to pray for peace and stability in the state and county at large.
