Senator Oluremi Tinubu Leads Bold Healthcare Revitalization Effort in Nigeria and Beyond

In an ambitious move to enhance healthcare accessibility, particularly for women and children, the Federal Government has officially commenced a transformative process aimed at revitalizing 17,600 Primary Health Care Centres nationwide.

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, unveiled this initiative during the formal launch of the Women's Optimal Health Framework in Kampala, Uganda, over the weekend.

Senator Tinubu emphasized that the government's commitment to revitalizing health centers across the country is primarily focused on addressing infant and maternal mortality while also fostering increased life expectancy for all Nigerians.

Represented by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohaneny, Senator Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government has secured a grant from an international donor agency to train midwives and frontline health workers. This initiative aims to strengthen collaborations in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.

Furthermore, Senator Tinubu highlighted the successful immunization of 4.7 million girls against cervical cancer since October 2023 through a coordinated partnership between her office and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The nationwide immunization campaign became possible with the introduction of the Human Papilloma Vaccine into the national routine vaccine schedule, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current Administration.

Senator Tinubu underscored the multi-sectoral approach of the Renewed Hope Initiative, which she established to empower Nigerian women across health, agriculture, education, economic empowerment, and social investment, targeting vulnerable groups.

Additionally, she mentioned the commencement of the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Program (RHI-WASP) competition, targeting over 3,000 women nationwide. The program, themed "Every Home A Garden," aims to encourage farming and good nutrition among women and the younger populace.

Senator Tinubu commended the Ugandan First Lady, Honourable Janet Museveni, for spearheading the optimal health initiative, describing it as a research-based program contributing to the life expectancy of women. She called on African women to actively engage in the program to bolster efforts in addressing gender equality issues in the region.

In response, Ugandan First Lady, Honourable Janet Museveni, lauded the Women's Optimal Health Framework as a gateway to strengthen partnerships for the upliftment of the health and general well-being of women in Africa. She commended Senator Tinubu as a beacon of hope for not only Nigeria but the entire African Sub-Region, acknowledging her commitment to the growth and development of women and children.
