In a grand ceremony at the Katsina State's Presidential Banquet Hall, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda hosted the departure event for the inaugural group of indigenous students awarded foreign academic scholarships to pursue post-graduate studies in Egypt.

Governor Radda proudly announced a significant investment of N900 million by the Katsina Government to sponsor this first batch of students to Al-Nahda University. The funding, covering a two-year study period, includes tuition fees, monthly stipends, accommodations, and other essential expenses.

During his address, Governor Radda cautioned the students against unruly behavior abroad, emphasizing the state government's commitment to replacing any student found lacking with a more competent candidate.

Highlighting the focus on supporting talented indigenous students, especially those pursuing degrees in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Governor Radda outlined the unique initiative's goal. Selected exclusively from public secondary schools, these students are expected to return and serve in health facilities within their respective local government areas upon graduation, addressing workforce gaps in the state's health facilities.

Governor Dikko Radda revealed ongoing efforts to establish a Faculty of Medical Science at Umaru Musa Yar'Adua University, Katsina, and the state's contribution to the Federal University of Medical Science in Funtua.

Deputy Governor Faruq Lawal Jobe, chairing the students' selection committee, affirmed rigorous procedures in identifying competent and talented students for the sponsorship program.

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Engineer Bello Lawal Yandaki, hailed the Radda Foreign Scholarship Program as a groundbreaking initiative contributing significantly to the state's education sector.

Expressing gratitude, sponsored candidate Alasan Nasir from Rimi Local Government pledged to meet the Katsina government's expectations and excel in their studies.
