Governor Radda signs VAPP, child protection law

The Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has signed into law the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) and the Child Protection Laws passed earlier by the state House of Assembly.
The ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall in the Katsina Government House on Friday, was followed immediately by the inauguration of a ‘Steering Committee’ to mark the state’s commitment to addressing this critical issue.
During the inauguration, Governor Radda highlighted the importance of these laws in ensuring equality, safety, and justice for all residents. He stressed the urgency of eradicating gender-based violence and ensuring the safety and rights of all individuals, especially women and children.
The Katsina Governor expressed confidence in the leadership of the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Musawa, tasked with overseeing gender-based violence-related matters. He called for the establishment of essential bodies to address these issues comprehensively, emphasizing the need for a coordinated approach.
Gov. Radda also expressed gratitude to the Katsina State House of Assembly for swift action in passing the VAPP Act, noting its significance in the collective effort against all forms of violence.
The governor further reaffirmed his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based violence. With unwavering determination and collective effort, he vowed to build a Katsina state where the rights and dignity of every individual are safeguarded.
