In a move geared towards enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare management during Hajj Operations, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is set to revamp the operations of the National Medical Team (NMT). This initiative aims to achieve cost reduction and streamline personnel numbers to align with the nation's economic realities.

The comprehensive plan, outlined in a report submitted by the committee on the Review of National Medical Team Guidelines, was presented to the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, at the boardroom of the Hajj House.

The proposed restructuring of the NMT operations emphasizes accessibility and a healthy working system, with a focus on cost-effectiveness amid current economic challenges. A notable suggestion from the committee involves introducing the concept of "Volunteerism" in the appointment of medical personnel to the NMT. This approach entails providing travel visas, accommodation, transportation, and stipends to appointed applicants.

Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, expressing gratitude to the committee members, assured that the report would undergo a meticulous review to formulate a robust working framework. He commended their dedication and diligence, promising that the outcomes would align with the aspirations of Nigerians, intending pilgrims, and future participants.

The Ag. Chairman/CEO reiterated NAHCON's commitment to overseeing and collaborating with partners and stakeholders to prioritize healthcare services for pilgrims. He affirmed, "We will expedite action to ensure the full implementation of the guidelines, addressing aspects that were previously partially executed."

Dr. Saidu Ahmed Dumbulwa, the head of the 18-member committee, presented the report, emphasizing its potential to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the National Medical Team during the 2024 Hajj. He expressed confidence that the implementation of the report would yield positive results swiftly. The report not only offers a roadmap for financing but also outlines the provision of health services to intending pilgrims both in Nigeria and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The NAHCON Chairman assured that the commission would act promptly to implement the recommendations, ensuring an improved healthcare system for Nigerian pilgrims.
