The Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room in collaboration with Youth Participation in Progressive Development Initiative (YPPDI) on Tuesday organized one-day capacity-building training on budget tracking for community-based organisations (CBOS) in Katsina State.

The training held in the state capital was coming barely one day after the State Government proposed a budget estimate of N454.3 billion for the year 2024.

On his part, the Program Officer of the Youth Participation in Progressive Development Initiative, Yahaya Sa’idu Lugga, maintained that the training is to make sure that the CBOS working in rural communities are equipped with knowledge of budget tracking vis-a-vis how they can participate actively in the budgetary process to ensure that their views, needs, and requirements are incorporated in the budget process.

“We are targeting all the CBOS from the 34 LGAs of the State and our expectation is that when they go back to their respective communities, they will ensure that they follow up and down at the grassroots communities to ensure that most of the requirements of the budget are implemented.

“This is because the budget is recently presented by the governor before the state house of Assembly for legislative consideration,” Lugga recalled.

One of the participants and Executive Director of WEGirls Development Foundation, A’isha Marafa, described the training as a very laudable initiative, and the first of its kind meant for Civil Society Organisations in the State.

‘This will help us to see how the performance of the government will be able to impact the citizens of not only the Katsina State citizens but also, the country at large.

“I’m here to build and strengthen my capacity to see how I will be able to see what the government had promised,” Marafa added.
