The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a woman in connection with the death of a man whose body was later discovered abandoned along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.
The suspect, identified as Mrs Rukayat Muhammed, was arrested after investigators traced the deceased’s missing mobile phone and uncovered a chain of events that allegedly began at a guest house in Gwarimpa.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed the development on Saturday while addressing journalists during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to Sanusi, the deceased and the suspect had checked into the Good Samaritan Guest House on 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, where they reportedly intended to spend some time together.
The case came to light after the man’s body was discovered on August 26, 2026, along the Kubwa Expressway near Katampe under the bridge.
Before the discovery, the deceased’s family had already reported him missing, prompting investigators to begin examining whether the unidentified body found by the roadside was connected to the missing-person report.
Sanusi said the circumstances surrounding the discovery initially raised suspicions of a possible “one chance” incident.
However, investigators eventually established the identity of the deceased and began tracing the circumstances that led to his death and the subsequent abandonment of his body.
A key breakthrough came when detectives discovered that the deceased's mobile phone was missing.
Although the device had already been switched off, investigators reportedly traced its communication history and identified the last person known to have been in contact with the deceased.
That trail eventually led detectives to Rukayat, a resident of Garki Area 2, Abuja.
Further investigation, according to the police commissioner, revealed that the suspect, who is married, allegedly had a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact under the name “Safiyat” on her phone.
Police subsequently established that the two had been together at the Gwarimpa guest house shortly before the man's death.
Sanusi said the suspect told investigators that she discovered the deceased was no longer breathing and had died while they were at the hotel.
Rather than immediately alerting the police or seeking assistance, however, the suspect allegedly left the premises with the deceased’s mobile phone.
The investigation took another turn several hours later when hotel management reportedly became concerned after attempts to establish contact with the occupants of the room failed.
According to the police, the deceased was subsequently found dead inside the room.
Rather than notifying law enforcement authorities, two hotel officials, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway near Katampe under the bridge.
The body was then allegedly dumped by the roadside.
Police said the action appeared to have been intended to separate the hotel and its management from the circumstances surrounding the death.
The development has raised further questions about what happened inside the guest house before the man's body was moved and whether other individuals may have been involved in the events surrounding his death.
The police said investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine the individual responsibilities of everyone connected to the case.
Sanusi warned that anyone found to have played a role either in the man's death or in the alleged concealment and abandonment of his body would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The commissioner also stressed that investigators would continue to pursue evidence needed to establish what exactly happened between the time the deceased arrived at the guest house and the eventual discovery of his body along the expressway.
