The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled Barrister Abubakar Bashir Dodo as its governorship candidate for Katsina State in the 2027 general elections.
The party also announced Alhaji Salisu Wada Kusada as the running mate to the governorship candidate, alongside other candidates contesting for various legislative positions during a ceremony held on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The event, which took place at the party’s office in the GRA area of Katsina, attracted party members, supporters, and stakeholders, including representatives of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Bello.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the Katsina State Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Aliyu Ilu Barde, who was earlier the party’s interim governorship candidate, expressed appreciation to God for making the occasion possible.
“We thank Almighty Allah for giving us the opportunity to witness this day, as we unveil our governorship candidate, his deputy, and other candidates for the state assembly. I welcome everyone, especially representatives from the electoral commission,” he said.
Barde further announced his withdrawal from the governorship race, stating that he had handed over the party’s ticket to Barrister Abubakar Bashir Dodo as the standard bearer of the NDC in Katsina State.
Other candidates unveiled during the event included Barrister Muhammad Mukhtar Lawal, who is contesting for a state assembly seat, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna for the Jibiya/Kaita Federal Constituency, Hon. Imrana for the Mashi/Dutsi Constituency, and Hon. Jamilu Abdullahi Lebo for the Batsari/Safana/Danmusa Federal Constituency.
The candidates, in their separate remarks, expressed commitment to strengthening the party and working towards victory in the forthcoming elections.
Also speaking at the event, Jari Danladi Kofar Durbi, the leader of commercial transport operators’ youths, commended the choice of candidates and praised the leadership style of Alhaji Aliyu Ilu Barde.
He pledged continued support for the NDC at all levels.
