Fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State following a controversy surrounding Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) and Chief Security Officer (CSO), whose presence at the Force Headquarters in Abuja has ignited political debate and competing narratives.

The development has added another layer to the growing power struggle within the ruling party, where political camps loyal to Governor Radda and those aligned with Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Political Matters, are increasingly being linked to behind-the-scenes manoeuvres ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reports from multiple sources claimed that the governor’s ADC and CSO have remained at the Force Headquarters since August 20, 2026, sparking speculation that they were being detained by the police. The reports surfaced shortly after security personnel attached to the governor were reportedly withdrawn, a move that political observers believe has intensified tensions within the Katsina APC.

At the centre of the controversy is the destruction of campaign billboards belonging to Masari at the Modoji Roundabout in Katsina. The billboards were reportedly vandalised by suspected hoodlums, triggering accusations from some political actors who alleged that the governor’s ADC and CSO were connected to the incident.

However, those allegations remain unproven. No public evidence has been presented linking the two officers to the destruction of the campaign materials, and no criminal charges have been announced against either of them.

Despite the absence of formal charges, the claims have continued to fuel speculation and deepen political mistrust between rival interests within the party.

The controversy also generated noticeable caution within sections of the Katsina media community. Journalists and media practitioners familiar with the governor’s security aides reportedly approached the matter carefully, choosing not to immediately publish claims of an arrest without official confirmation.

That caution appeared justified when the Nigeria Police Force offered a different account of the situation.

Speaking on the matter, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, dismissed reports suggesting that the officers had been arrested or detained. According to him, both men were invited to Abuja by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, to answer questions relating to issues originating from Katsina State.

He further stated that the invitation was not connected to any criminal offence and that preliminary findings had shown that neither officer had committed a crime.

The police explanation sharply contrasts with accounts from some sources who insist the officers have remained at the Force Headquarters since their arrival in Abuja.

Adding to the intrigue, some media reports alleged that the invitation followed complaints reportedly linked to influential political interests within the APC. However, the reports acknowledged that the alleged directives and their origins could not be independently verified.

As public interest in the matter continues to grow, the Katsina State Government has remained largely silent. Efforts to obtain official reactions from government officials yielded no immediate response.

The Director-General of the Media Directorate at Katsina Government House, Maiwada Dammallam, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Muhammad, were both contacted for comments but had not responded as of the time this report was filed.

The silence has left room for two competing narratives to dominate public discourse. While some sources maintain that the governor’s key security aides are being detained, the police insist they were merely invited for questioning and have committed no offence.

Beyond the fate of the two officers, political observers say the episode reflects a much deeper struggle unfolding within the Katsina APC.

With preparations for the 2027 elections gradually taking shape, disagreements over political influence, grassroots mobilisation and control of party structures are increasingly becoming visible. The latest controversy has therefore become more than a security matter—it is now seen as another flashpoint in an intensifying battle for political dominance within the ruling party in Katsina State.

For now, unanswered questions remain. No evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate allegations against the governor’s aides, and no formal charges have been filed. Yet the controversy continues to reverberate across the state's political landscape, underscoring the fragile balance of power within one of the APC’s key strongholds.
