The Katsina State Government has announced plans to host the 2026 Nationwide Katsina State Students' Week, an initiative aimed at fostering unity among Katsina students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria while promoting academic excellence, leadership and cultural heritage.
The announcement was made by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters, Muhammad Nuhu Nagaske, during a press conference held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Katsina State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
Speaking at the briefing, Nagaske said the programme was initiated under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to provide a common platform for Katsina State students enrolled in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the country.
According to him, the week-long event is designed to strengthen unity among students, encourage healthy competition and nurture future leaders through academic, sporting and cultural activities.
He explained that the academic segment of the programme will feature quiz competitions, debates, essay writing and poetry contests, while the sporting events will include football, volleyball and basketball competitions.
Nagaske added that participants would also showcase Katsina State's rich Hausa cultural heritage through cultural displays aimed at preserving tradition and promoting peaceful coexistence among students.
He said one of the key objectives of the programme is to create a direct engagement between students and the state government, allowing participants to present their concerns, aspirations and recommendations directly to government officials.
"The Students' Week is not only about competitions but also about building stronger relationships between government and students, while preparing young people for leadership and national development," he said.
He disclosed that the event will conclude with a grand finale to be attended by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda as the Special Guest of Honour. During the closing ceremony, the governor is expected to present trophies, medals, certificates and other awards to outstanding students and winning institutions.
The 2026 Nationwide Katsina State Students' Week is themed "Unity, Growth and the Future of Leadership" and will be hosted at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, bringing together students of Katsina origin from tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
