Police, Vigilantes Repel Bandit Assault in Katsina, Recover Rifle and Motorcycle

A swift response by security operatives has thwarted a suspected bandit attack on Sabon Gulbi Village in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving one attacker dead and leading to the recovery of weapons and other items.

The Katsina State Police Command disclosed that the operation was carried out by a joint team of police officers and personnel of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) following an emergency alert from residents of the community.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the attack was reported at about 5:00 p.m. on July 29 when armed bandits allegedly stormed the village, prompting a distress call to security agencies.

According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Musawa quickly mobilised a combined tactical team to the area, where security operatives confronted the assailants in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The operation, the police said, successfully forced the attackers to retreat, with one suspected bandit killed during the gun battle. Several others were believed to have escaped from the scene with gunshot wounds.

Security personnel later combed the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, as well as an operational motorcycle suspected to have been used by the fleeing criminals.

The command said efforts were underway to track down the escaped suspects and bring them to justice.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar Fage, commended the collaboration between the police and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, describing the operation as a testament to the effectiveness of joint security efforts.

He also praised the operatives for their courage and professionalism in confronting the attackers and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property across the state.

Fage urged residents to remain security conscious and continue providing timely information to law enforcement agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
