The Katsina State Government has completed the distribution of tractors and key agricultural implements to all 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in preparation for the 2025 rainy season, under its Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.

The initiative, coordinated by the Agricultural Development Programmes Unit (ADPU) in the Governor’s Office, is part of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s strategy to modernise agriculture and strengthen food security in the state.

Dr. Suleiman Umar, ADPU Coordinator, confirmed that each LGA has now received a full package of machinery and equipment comprising two Lovol 504 tractors, two disc harrows, two ridgers, one trailer, and 10 multicrop planters. He also disclosed that supplementary consignments of disc harrows and ridgers were recently delivered to enhance land preparation, particularly in rural farming communities.

All equipment was dispatched from the Katsina State Agricultural Mechanisation Centre, a major facility commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his recent official visit to the state. The Centre serves as a cornerstone of the Radda administration’s “Building Your Future” agenda.

Governor Radda had earlier announced plans to establish sub-centres of the Mechanisation Centre across all LGAs to bring modern farming closer to local communities and reduce the burden of manual labour.

“This intervention is not just about equipment. It’s about building a more productive and resilient agricultural system in Katsina. We are empowering our farmers with the tools they need to thrive,” said Dr. Umar.

The state-wide rollout is expected to accelerate land preparation, reduce the workload on farmers, and improve crop yields during the 2025 farming season.
