Katsina Strengthens Accountability Drive with New Anti-Graft Liaison Committee

‎‎The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a committee to coordinate and oversee responses to invitations issued to government officials by anti-graft agencies, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional coordination and ensuring prompt engagement with investigative bodies.

‎The committee was inaugurated on Monday at the State Secretariat in Katsina by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abdullahi Garba Faskari, who charged members to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, professionalism and a strong sense of public duty.

‎Comprising senior legal officers and government representatives, the committee is expected to serve as a liaison between state officials and anti-corruption agencies, ensuring that official invitations are properly managed and responded to in a timely manner.

‎Its responsibilities include monitoring invitations received by government officials, maintaining records of correspondence and responses, advising government on matters arising from such invitations, and facilitating communication between relevant authorities and the Governor’s Office.

‎The committee is also mandated to establish an effective tracking system for invitations and responses, provide periodic reports on its activities, and make recommendations that would enhance government engagement with anti-graft and investigative institutions.

‎The initiative comes at a time when anti-corruption agencies are intensifying efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public service, with government institutions across the country facing increased scrutiny over the management of public resources.

‎Observers say the establishment of the committee could help streamline official responses to invitations from agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), while reducing administrative bottlenecks and ensuring compliance with lawful requests.

‎They also note that a centralized coordination mechanism may improve record-keeping, strengthen institutional accountability and provide a structured framework for managing interactions between public officials and investigative bodies.

‎Although the state government has not linked the committee's creation to any specific investigation or ongoing case, the development is expected to attract attention from stakeholders interested in governance, transparency and anti-corruption efforts.

‎The committee is expected to commence work immediately and provide a coordinated approach to handling future engagements between government officials and anti-graft agencies operating within the state.
