The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto has strongly denied reports claiming that His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the allegation as entirely false and an attempt to drag the revered monarch into partisan politics.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the palace dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Sultan had urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The media team said such reports were inconsistent with the Sultan’s long-standing role as a traditional and religious leader who remains above political contests and serves as a father figure to all Nigerians.
“Our simple response to the report is that it is not possible for the Sultan, as the father of all, to make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum,” the statement said.
The palace described the report as a deliberate and unpatriotic attempt to exploit the Sultan’s respected status for political gain, urging members of the public to disregard the claim.
According to the statement, the Sultan’s position requires him to maintain neutrality and remain accessible to individuals and groups across political, ethnic and religious divides.
It stressed that the institutions of monarchy and religion under the Sultan’s leadership are built on inclusiveness, guidance and moral authority rather than political alignment.
The media team noted that politicians from different backgrounds often seek the Sultan’s counsel, blessings and advice, but insisted that such engagements should not be interpreted as endorsements of any political ambition.
“His Eminence has consistently demonstrated that he is the father of all and will continue to relate with all Nigerians without discrimination,” the statement added.
The palace further warned against efforts to portray the Sultan as backing the political aspirations of any individual or group ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying such narratives should be rejected by Nigerians.
Reaffirming the Sultan’s commitment to national unity, the statement said the monarch remains focused on promoting peace, stability, mutual understanding and harmonious coexistence among citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
The media team also called on journalists, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication, warning that the spread of unverified claims could mislead the public and unnecessarily drag traditional and religious institutions into political controversies.
