The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has strengthened its partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State as part of efforts to curb the rising cases of vandalism and Right-of-Way (RoW) encroachment affecting critical power infrastructure.

The renewed collaboration is aimed at enhancing the protection of transmission facilities and safeguarding the stability of electricity supply across the region.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, said the commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by the company’s Katsina Sub-Region management team to the NSCDC command.

According to her, the delegation was led by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Katsina Region, Mr. Usman Idris, who emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation between both agencies in protecting national assets.

Mbah explained that the meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to deepen information-sharing mechanisms and strengthen joint efforts against threats to transmission infrastructure.

During the visit, Idris praised the NSCDC for its swift response to previous security incidents and highlighted recent attacks on power facilities within the sub-region.

He specifically cited the vandalism of Towers T-219 and T-228 located along the Katsina–Daura 132-kilovolt transmission line, noting that the damage was uncovered during a routine patrol.

The TCN official described the incidents as part of a growing pattern of vandalism that continues to pose serious concerns to the company.

According to him, attacks on transmission infrastructure not only undermine the integrity of the national grid but also threaten reliable electricity supply to homes, businesses and public institutions.

He stressed that sustained collaboration among security agencies and stakeholders remains crucial to protecting critical national infrastructure from acts of sabotage.

Responding, the Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Moriki, disclosed that investigations into the reported vandalism cases had already commenced.

Moriki assured TCN of the corps’ unwavering support, pledging stronger coordination and proactive measures to combat vandalism and prevent encroachment on transmission corridors.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to working closely with the power company to safeguard vital electricity infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted service delivery to Nigerians.
