The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a cattle rustling attempt and recovered 10 stolen cows following an operation in Bagwayawa village, Kafur Local Government Area of the state.

The command's spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said in a statement on Monday that the incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on July 6, when suspected armed bandits attacked the village and rustled several cattle.

He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kafur swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene after receiving a distress call, adding that the team blocked the suspects' escape routes and engaged them in a gun duel.

According to the statement, the bandits fled into a nearby forest after they were overpowered by the police, abandoning the stolen animals.

"The operatives successfully recovered 10 cows, which are being processed for return to their rightful owners," the statement said.

The police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for their swift response and bravery, reaffirming the command's commitment to tackling crime across the state.

He also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid efforts to combat criminal activities.
