Katsina Police Arrest Drug Suspect, Dismantle 4-Man Armed Robbery Syndicate, Recover Weapons and Stolen Items

The Katsina State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected drug peddler and four members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in Funtua Local Government Area and surrounding communities, recovering illicit drugs, weapons, stolen property and cash.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command Public Relations Officer, the operations were carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage.

In one of the operations on May 28, 2026, police acted on credible intelligence received at the Central Police Station, Funtua, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect, Aliyu Umar, popularly known as “Makami”, at Jabiri area.

The suspect was allegedly found in possession of 38 tablets of Exol, 28 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a sharp knife. Police said investigations are ongoing to uncover his links with a wider drug network operating in the area.

In a separate operation on May 21, 2026, operatives of the Makera Division arrested three suspected armed robbers following intelligence reports about criminal activities in the Makera area.

The suspects include Salim Umar (24), Yusuf Mustapha (23), and Gaddafi Idris (27), all of whom allegedly specialize in phone snatching, motorcycle theft, shop breaking and armed robbery.

Items recovered from them include two long knives, three machetes, scissors, an iron pinch bar, torchlights, Android and keypad phones, a power bank, wristwatch, computer charger, ATM cards, 44 SIM cards, charms, a key, and ₦36,870 cash.

Police further disclosed that one of the victims, Ibrahim Mustapha, identified the suspects as those who broke into his shop along Bishir Idris Road, Funtua. Another victim, Salisu Ibrahim, also reported that his Boxer motorcycle valued at ₦1.1 million was stolen by the same gang.

The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime across the state. He also urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies.
