The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has responded to public concerns following the suspension of Badegi FM, a radio station operating in Minna, the Niger State capital, by the state government.

The station’s suspension was announced by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago during an expanded APC Caucus meeting in Minna on August 1, an event also attended by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation. Governor Bago reportedly cited alleged unethical broadcasting practices and incitement against the government as reasons for the shutdown.

In a statement released on August 2 by Rabiu Ibrahim, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister, the Ministry clarified that the authority to suspend broadcasting licenses rests solely with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), as stipulated by law.

The Ministry noted that it welcomes the decision of the Niger State Government to formally report Badegi FM’s alleged misconduct to the NBC for proper investigation and resolution.

The Minister urged all stakeholders and members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, assuring that the NBC is equipped to handle the matter impartially and within the framework of the law.
