Former President Muhammadu Buhari Passes Away: Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Mourns a National Icon

The Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing his death as a monumental loss to the nation.

In an official condolence message signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, the university community extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late President, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation.

"The passing of President Buhari marks the end of an era of exceptional leadership, selfless service, and unwavering dedication to Nigeria," the statement reads. “As a former Head of State and President, his life was a reflection of integrity, discipline, and strong commitment to the unity and progress of the nation.”

Professor Muhammad highlighted Buhari’s significant contributions in the fight against corruption, national security, and economic reforms, noting that these efforts have left an indelible impact on the country's trajectory.

Describing him as “a proud son of the soil,” the statement paid special tribute to Buhari’s humble and simple lifestyle, which earned him admiration from millions across the country and beyond.

"We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants his noble soul Aljannat Firdaus and gives his family the strength to bear this great loss," the Vice-Chancellor added.

As tributes continue to pour in from across Nigeria and around the world, UMYU says it takes comfort in the legacy of patriotism and service left behind by the former leader, a legacy it hopes will inspire future generations.
