The Northwest Governors Forum has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday across all seven states in the region in honour of former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital.
In a statement issued on Monday, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former leader, describing him as “a father, a leader, and the pride of the Northwest region.”
“The Northwest Governors Forum receives with shock and deep sorrow the news of the passing of our beloved former President, General Muhammadu Buhari. He lived a life of service, integrity, and sacrifice for the betterment of Nigeria,” the statement read.
Governor Radda said the public holiday is a mark of honour and respect for the late elder statesman, and a reflection of the deep reverence the region holds for him.
He also announced that the remains of the former president are expected to arrive in Katsina on Tuesday at approximately 12:00 PM, with the burial ceremony scheduled for 2:00 PM in Daura, his hometown.
The Forum extended its condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians mourning the national loss.
“May Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus and give his family, friends, and all Nigerians the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the Forum prayed.
