Governor Radda Mourns Buhari, Describes Him as Katsina’s Most Illustrious Son

By Katsina Times Reporter- Katsina, July 13, 2025

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has expressed profound sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as "Katsina’s most illustrious son" and a father figure who shaped his personal and political journey.

Buhari died in London at 4:30 pm on Sunday, July 13, after a prolonged illness. He was 83.

In a statement from the Katsina Government House, Governor Radda described Buhari as a patriot whose leadership left a lasting impact not just on Katsina State, but on Nigeria as a whole.

“Today, Nigeria has lost a patriot, Katsina has lost its most illustrious son, and I have lost a father figure whose footsteps I have endeavoured to follow,” the governor said.

He praised Buhari’s legacy of integrity, dedication to the masses, and his deep-rooted connection to his people. According to him, the former president embodied the values of honesty and selfless service.

“President Buhari was not just a leader; he was the embodiment of the common man's aspirations. His people-oriented programs and genuine love for the masses defined his leadership philosophy,” Radda noted.

Reflecting on Buhari’s dual service to the country as a military leader (1984–1985) and later as a democratically elected president (2015–2023), Governor Radda said the late leader’s commitment to national unity and grassroots development cut across political lines.

“From his early days as a military leader to his transformative presidency, President Buhari never forgot his roots. He remained connected to the soil of Katsina and the hearts of its people. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in our collective consciousness,” he said.

While mourning the loss, the governor also called on Nigerians to celebrate Buhari’s legacy and draw inspiration from his service-driven life.

“As we mourn this irreparable loss, we must also celebrate a life well-lived in service to humanity. President Buhari’s legacy of putting people first will continue to inspire generations of leaders,” he added.

Governor Radda extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and Nigerians at large.
