The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has joined the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and other key stakeholders to unveil MTN Nigeria’s new Cloud Service and Tier III Data Centre in Lagos.
The state-of-the-art facility is seen as a major step forward in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey. Speaking at the launch, the NITDA DG hailed the project as a “strategic milestone” that enhances the country’s digital infrastructure and promotes the development of home-grown technological solutions.
Abdullahi emphasised that the initiative is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in the areas of economic diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, creative arts, manufacturing, and innovation.
He further noted that the project reinforces the federal government’s “Nigeria First” policy, which prioritises support for local service providers and aims to accelerate the adoption of cloud technology and artificial intelligence innovations across the country.
The event drew high-profile attendees, including the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin—and the CEO of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Karl Toriola.
The launch is expected to boost Nigeria’s data sovereignty, support local startups, and drive digital inclusion.
