The Chairman and CEO of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, May 15, 2025, during which he briefed the President on the company's efforts to support the federal government’s food security agenda.
Speaking after the meeting, Alhaji Rabiu expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the President and commended the administration’s policies aimed at stabilising food prices across the country.
“It is always a great honour to have an audience with His Excellency, Mr. President, and I thank him for the privilege,” Rabiu said.
He explained that BUA Group had actively taken advantage of the tariff waivers granted by the federal government last year on certain food imports, including wheat, maize, and rice.
“We keyed into that policy, and BUA was able to import substantial quantities of wheat, maize, and rice. As soon as the shipments arrived, we commenced processing, which led to a significant reduction in the prices of some of these commodities,” he stated.
Rabiu noted that the President was pleased with the efforts and encouraged BUA Group to continue contributing to the stability of the economy.
“Mr. President was satisfied with our report. He commended our efforts and urged us to do more in supporting the economy,” Rabiu added.
The visit comes amid ongoing national discussions around inflation and the cost of living, with private sector support considered key to achieving the government’s food sufficiency goals.
