Katsina to Host Africa’s First Equestrian City in Multi-Billion Naira Project
Katsina, Nigeria – May 15, 2025
Katsina State is set to become home to Africa’s first Equestrian City following a high-level engagement between Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Malam Shehu Dikko.
The multi-billion naira project, which is expected to transform the economic and cultural landscape of northern Nigeria, was formalized after further discussions involving the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa; Malam Shehu Dikko; and the Executive Director of the Katsina State History and Culture Bureau, Dr. Kabir Ali Masanawa.
Governor Radda described the approval as a major milestone in his administration’s efforts to harness Katsina’s rich cultural heritage while driving sustainable economic growth across the state and northern region.
“This initiative will not only preserve our traditions but will also open up thousands of job opportunities and attract global attention to Katsina,” the governor stated.
The Equestrian City will feature world-class facilities including a National Grand Durbar ground, horse racing tracks, an Equestrian Academy, a Polo Club, and West Africa’s first International Mounted Games Headquarters.
The development will also include Contemporary Art Villas and Duplexes designed to reflect and promote Arewa cultural identity.
“This is a visionary project that will reposition Katsina on the global map of equestrian excellence,” said Dr. Masanawa, praising Governor Radda’s leadership in securing the initiative.
