The spokesperson for the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly has confirmed that a formal proposal seeking the creation of additional emirates within the state has been submitted to the Assembly.
In interview with Katsina Times on Tuesday, the spokesperson acknowledged the submission of the document but clarified that he had not personally sighted the proposal at the time of speaking. He explained that his earlier statement in an interview with DCL Hausa on Monday, where he claimed no such document had been received, was due to the fact that he had already left the office and was unaware of the submission.
“This issue is not unusual,” he stated. “Individuals, groups, or communities can submit petitions, requests, or proposals to the Assembly, and the Assembly has the mandate to deliberate on such matters and make decisions accordingly.”
Additional sources within the Assembly also confirmed to Katsina Times that the document had indeed been received and was officially placed on the desk of the Speaker.
As earlier reported by Katsina Times, a group of individuals had submitted a proposal calling for the establishment of new emirates within the Katsina Emirate. On Monday, the newspaper published a copy of the proposal bearing the official stamp of the State House of Assembly, confirming its receipt.
Although reporters from Katsina Times attended Tuesday’s plenary session of the Assembly in anticipation of the proposal being tabled, the session concluded without mention of the matter. It remains unclear when the proposal will be officially presented for deliberation.
