Katsina, February 18, 2024 – The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Katsina State Chapter, Comrade Husaini Hamisu ‘Yanduna, has commended the Katsina State Government for its dedication to improving workers' welfare during the official flag-off ceremony of the Rumbun Sauki programme. The event, held at Mamman Dawai Hall in the Katsina State Secretariat, marked a significant step towards alleviating the financial burdens faced by workers in the state.

In his address, Comrade ‘Yanduna expressed joy and gratitude for the leadership’s responsiveness to workers' needs, describing the initiative as a lifeline amid rising living costs.

"We gather here not just as workers but as beneficiaries of a visionary leader’s efforts. This initiative is a clear demonstration of people-centered governance, ensuring that workers can afford essential food items at subsidized rates," he stated.

The Rumbun Sauki programme, inspired by similar welfare policies in other regions, is designed to provide affordable food supplies to workers. The chairman noted that this intervention goes beyond economic relief, as it also upholds the dignity and security of the workforce, which remains the backbone of the state's socio-economic development.

He further emphasized that the policy would enhance workers' financial stability and morale, fostering increased trust in governance.

"By easing our burdens, the government has reassured us of its commitment to our welfare. We are confident that under this administration, such initiatives will not only continue but expand to reach even more citizens," he added.

Comrade ‘Yanduna called on workers to conduct themselves responsibly to sustain the programme’s objectives. He also announced that, in addition to this intervention, workers have effectively received a 10% salary increment, further easing their financial struggles.

In his concluding remarks, he pledged the NLC’s continued support for policies that uplift the workforce and contribute to the state’s development. He also congratulated the government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on their victory in the recently concluded local government elections, expressing hope that the newly elected officials would serve the people diligently.

"With your continued leadership, we believe that no worker in this state will struggle to afford basic necessities. On behalf of all workers, I extend our heartfelt appreciation and best wishes for continued success, progress, and prosperity for Katsina State."

The Rumbun Sauki programme is expected to play a crucial role in easing the economic challenges faced by workers, reinforcing the government’s dedication to their welfare.
