The Katsina government has banned the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the night across 19 LGAs as part of efforts to enhance security in the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Nasiru Mu’azu, commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said the ban is from 8pm to 6am.

“The order affects LGs fully affected by banditry and other related crimes. Among them are Sabuwa, Dandume, Funtua, Faskari and Bakori,” the commissioner said.

“Others are Kankara, Danja, Kafur, Malumfashi, Musawa, Matazu, Danmusa, Safana and Dutsinma. Also affected are Kurfi, Charanchi, Jibia, Batsari and Kankia.

“Members of the public must understand that the purpose of the order is for the restoration of permanent peace in the affected areas.”

Yobe state had also banned the use of motorcycles in the state due to security challenges.

But in March, Mai Mala Buni, the state governor, lifted the ban and said motorcycles would only operate between 6am and 6pm.

The state said they are not to be used for commercial purposes. The government also directed that motorbikes are to operate within their respective LGAs only.
