Students and Management of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) have commended the effort of Governor Dikko Radda to upgrade the institute into a university.

They also want the university to be named after the governor: Malam Dikko Umaru Radda University of Technology, Katsina (MADUR).

In a solidarity rally held on Monday at the premises of the proposed university, the President of the Students Union Government of the institute Mustapha Kafinsoli told reporters that the essence of the rally was to also request for the school management to commence its academic session with direct entry program for the benefit of the outgoing students of the institute to further their education instead of them seeking admission from 100 level.

The students were seen carrying various placards with different inscriptions hailing the state governor for upgrading the institute and proposing that the school should be named after the governor’s name.

“The essence of the rally is for the present and ex-students of this institution to appreciate Governor Dikko Raɗɗa for converting or upgrading the institute into a University.

“We are requesting the governor to name the university after his name: Malam Dikko Umaru Radda University of Technology, Katsina.

“We also need the school to start with a Direct Entry Program (DE) for the outgoing students and former students, instead of seeking admission from 100 level,” Kafinsoli noted.

The institute was established in 2014 by the former governor of the State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema under Katsina State of Nigeria Law No. 8 of 2013 as an Innovation Enterprise Institution (IEI) intended to develop homegrown technologies and skills in industry and government.

The mission of the institute is to advance know-how and educate students in science, technology, and engineering as the basis of a holistic education that will best serve Katsina State, and the Nation at large.
