State Deputy Governor, Hon. Faruq Lawal Jobe, emphasized this commitment during an inspection visit to the Dabar-hajia mining site of Rafin-gora in Danja local government.
Hon. Jobe leading the state committee to identify mining sites, was briefed on substantial gold and coal deposits at the location. He warned that individuals engaging in illegal activities would face prosecution.
The state government had previously instructed all miners to submit their documents for scrutiny, and the deputy governor expressed disappointment that some alleged illegal miners failed to comply.
While inspecting the site, Hon. Jobe who is also the Sarkin Fulanin Jobe observed community members excavating coal and noted that those operating on the gold site had abandoned the area, possibly due to advance notice.
The chairman of Katsina Solid Minerals Mines and Processors Cooperative Society in Danja, Dahiru Dan Kande, informed the deputy governor that their mining activities at the site had been suspended since the expiration of their operation license in 2017. He added that those currently operating at the site are doing so independently.
Dahiru Dan-Kande appealed to the state government to regulate mining activities by providing machines for efficient mineral discovery. Garba Lado Danja, admitting to illegal coal digging, disclosed that each bag of coal is being sold at a price ranging from one thousand two hundred and above.
The Deputy Governor, along with other committee members, inspected not only the mining site but also an isolated area where gold is being polished in preparation for buyers.
The Katsina State Government remains dedicated to fostering responsible and regulated mining practices for the benefit of all stakeholders.
