The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has charged staff of the Commission to deploy creativity, professionalism and modern communication skills in effectively communicating the mandate, activities and achievements of the Commission to the public.
Dr Aliyu gave the charge in Abuja while declaring open a two-day training on Content Creation, Editing, Audio-Visual Production and News Writing for staff of the Media and Public Communications Unit and the Education Department of the Commission.
The training, held from 24th to 25th August 2026, was organised by the ICPC with the support of the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) to strengthen the capacity of relevant staff in contemporary communication techniques.
The ICPC Chairman, who was represented by the Head, External Cooperation Unit, Mr Ahmed Abdul, noted that the rapidly evolving communication landscape had made effective content creation and strategic deployment of media increasingly important to institutions seeking to communicate effectively and sustain public engagement.
According to him, the Commission must continually improve the quality of its communication in order to present its mandate, activities and achievements to Nigerians accurately, creatively and professionally.
“In today’s rapidly evolving communication environment, effective content creation and strategic use of media are essential to communicating the mandate, activities and achievements of the ICPC accurately, creatively and professionally,” he said.
Dr Aliyu urged participants to take full advantage of the training by actively engaging the facilitators, sharing experiences and acquiring practical skills that would enhance the quality of their work.
He stressed that the value of the capacity-building programme would ultimately be measured by how well participants translate the knowledge and skills acquired into improved performance and more effective communication of the Commission’s activities.
The Chairman also commended CDD for supporting the programme and for its commitment to strengthening the professional capacity of ICPC staff, noting that partnerships of this nature contribute significantly to building a competent, innovative and effective workforce.
Welcoming participants, the Head of the Media and Public Communications Unit, Mr. Okor Odey, emphasised the importance of a sound understanding of communication for practitioners seeking to remain professionally relevant in a rapidly evolving media environment.
Odey said effective communication requires more than the execution of assigned tasks, stressing that practitioners need to understand “the distinction between executing, supervising and directing a communication strategy.”
The two-day training featured practical sessions designed to enhance participants’ competencies in content creation, editing, audio-visual production and news writing, with a view to strengthening the Commission’s public communication and engagement.
