The Federal Government has commenced the construction of a 250-unit Renewed Hope Civil Service Housing Estate in Gwagwalada, Abuja, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of federal civil servants and expand access to affordable homeownership.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held on Wednesday. The estate comprises 250 two-bedroom bungalows and is being implemented through a partnership between the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, said the project was designed specifically to provide affordable housing for civil servants while recognising their contributions to national development.
The minister said access to affordable housing would not only improve the living conditions of civil servants but also enhance their efficiency and productivity in public service.
He added that the project demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to recognising and rewarding dedicated public servants, noting that housing remained one of the basic needs of every individual.
Darma urged the contractors, consultants and supervising teams to ensure that the houses were constructed to high standards and would be durable enough to stand the test of time.
He said the government expected all parties involved in the project to maintain quality, professionalism and accountability throughout its implementation.
