The Katsina State Police Command says it has foiled a suspected bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area and arrested a 23-year-old woman over the alleged attempted murder of her husband in a separate incident in Katsina metropolis.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the operations were part of the command's ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.

According to the statement, the attempted bandit attack occurred on Saturday, June 28, at about 6:30 p.m., after police received intelligence that a large group of armed men riding motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau–Sheme Road in Dandume Local Government Area.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dandume reportedly mobilised personnel from the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to the area.

Police said the operatives engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes. Two motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspects and a machete were recovered at the scene, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend those involved.

In a separate incident, the command said it arrested a 23-year-old housewife, identified as Sadiya Lawal, following the alleged attempted killing of her husband, Jamilu Ibrahim.

According to police, Ibrahim reported at the Central Market Police Division that his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife while he was asleep in the early hours of June 29, inflicting a deep cut to his neck.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatment, while officers visited the scene, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

Police said the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commenting on the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in repelling the suspected bandit attack and reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also cautioned against domestic violence, urging residents to resolve family disputes through lawful and peaceful means and encouraged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid crime prevention.
