Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has announced that 32 out of the 66 water projects awarded by his administration have been completed, marking significant progress in the state's efforts to improve access to clean and safe water.

The governor made the disclosure on Thursday while inaugurating the Tsagero Small Town Water Supply Scheme in Rimi Local Government Area, a project designed to provide potable water to residents of Tsagero and surrounding communities.

With 48 percent of the projects already delivered, Radda said the state government remains committed to expanding water infrastructure to enhance public health, sanitation, and economic development across Katsina.

He described access to clean water as a fundamental necessity and a critical driver of community growth, stressing that his administration is prioritising investments in the water sector through the construction and rehabilitation of key facilities statewide.

According to the governor, several major interventions are currently underway, including Phase 1B of the Zobe Water Supply Project, rehabilitation of water treatment plants and reservoirs, installation of pumps and valves, and the expansion of small-town water schemes.

Radda also highlighted the contributions of development partners, noting that projects supported by the World Bank-backed SURWASH and SPIN programmes are helping to strengthen water supply and sanitation services in the state.

Beyond water infrastructure, he said the government has intensified efforts to improve sanitation through the construction of public sanitation facilities and household latrines in various communities.

The governor assured residents that additional water projects would be executed to ensure more communities gain access to reliable and safe water sources.

He urged community leaders and residents to take ownership of the newly inaugurated facility by protecting and maintaining it to guarantee its long-term sustainability.

Radda further commended the Ministry of Water Resources, the State Water and Sanitation Agency (STOWASSA), contractors, and other stakeholders whose contributions ensured the successful completion of the project.
