Suspected bandits on Sunday launched coordinated attacks on communities in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing a police officer and a civilian, while destroying property worth millions of naira.

Residents said the attackers stormed Sayaya town where they set the community hospital ablaze and looted and burnt several major shops.

The assailants also destroyed two vehicles in Sayaya.

In a related incident, the bandits reportedly attacked Dankawari town, where they burnt another vehicle.

Sources said the violence extended to Matazu town, where a police officer identified as Suleiman was killed alongside another resident.

A young boy was also reportedly shot during the attack and is said to be receiving treatment.

Residents described the slain police officer as dedicated and well-respected in the community.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
