The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Katsina State Command has partnered with the Katsina State Ministry of Environment to advance climate action through a tree planting initiative. The move aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 on climate action.

The collaboration is aimed at supporting the state government’s ongoing efforts to tackle climate change through various environmental policies, including large-scale tree planting to combat desertification and promote biodiversity.

According to the FRSC, the project also reinforces its Quality Management System, which is affected by environmental factors such as excessive rainfall, smoke emissions, and extreme weather conditions. By promoting green spaces, the Corps hopes to mitigate the risks of climate change on its operations and ensure service delivery meets public expectations.

As part of the initiative, the FRSC received 580 tree seedlings valued at ₦750,000 from the Ministry of Environment. The seedlings include cashew (100), guava (30), ceiba petandra (50), satellite (50), eucalyptus, pawpaw, moringa, mango, and date palms (70 each).

The planting exercise was conducted at the Corps’ new office complex along Dutsinma Road, under the supervision of a forestry officer from the Ministry of Environment.
