He Said They Would Kill Him’: Outrage as 15yrs old Boy Is rape Found Dead in the Well in Katsina

A cloud of sorrow and anger has descended on Birdingau community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State following the shocking death of a 15-year-old boy, Abdul Auwal, whose body was discovered inside a village well under circumstances that have sparked widespread concern.

The tragic incident came to light in the early hours of the morning when local women arrived at the well to fetch water and reportedly found the teenager’s lifeless body floating in the water. The discovery sent shockwaves through the community, with residents gathering at the scene as news of the incident spread.

Abdul Auwal was later buried in accordance with Islamic rites amid grief from family members, friends and residents who described the incident as both heartbreaking and disturbing.

Speaking on the development, Hajiya Badiya Sani, a member of a human rights advocacy group in Kankara, alleged that the teenager was sexually assaulted and killed before his body was dumped in the well.

According to her, a suspect identified as Shamsudeen Sule has been arrested in connection with the case and transferred to Katsina for further police investigation.

She further claimed that the deceased had previously raised concerns about the suspect, alleging that he informed his mother that the man had threatened his life following an earlier incident of sexual abuse.

“The boy reportedly told his mother that the suspect threatened to kill him after abusing him. Sadly, the warning was not acted upon before this tragedy occurred,” she said.

Badiya also questioned the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death, arguing that observations made when the body was recovered have fueled suspicions within the community.

She alleged that there were no visible signs suggesting the victim drowned, leading many residents to believe he may have been killed elsewhere before his body was disposed of in the well.

“The community believes there is more to this case because people who saw the body say there were no obvious indications of drowning. That is why many suspect he was killed before being thrown into the well,” she added.

The incident has generated strong reactions across Birdingau, with residents and members of the bereaved family demanding a thorough and transparent investigation.

Community members are urging the Katsina State Police Command and other relevant authorities to ensure that all circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death are fully uncovered and that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.

As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command had not released an official statement on the matter. Efforts to obtain a response from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, were unsuccessful, as messages seeking clarification had not been answered.

Police investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of death and verify the allegations surrounding the incident.
