Katsina State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Malam Yusuf Sulaiman Jibiya, has witnessed the presentation of 50 laptop computers to secondary school students and 117 tablet devices to primary school pupils.
A Press Release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Sani Danjuma Suleiman, says the presentation was made by the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Wada Maida.
The gesture, which targeted outstanding students and pupils of Dikko College, Katsina and Garama Primary School, is aimed at giving the beneficiaries better access to digital learning resources, supporting their academic development and encouraging them to embrace the opportunities offered by Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Speaking during the presentation, the Commissioner for Education expressed appreciation to Dr Aminu Wada Maida for what he described as a thoughtful and commendable gesture by an illustrious son of Katsina State.
Malam Yusuf Sulaiman Jibiya noted that the intervention would further complement the sustained efforts of the administration of Dikko Umaru Radda, to improve the quality of education and equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed for the future.
On behalf of the Government and people of the State, the Commissioner warmly welcomed Dr Maida to his home and thanked him for choosing to invest in the education and future of Katsina children.
He said the provision of the laptops and tablets would strengthen the State Government’s efforts to promote ICT education and digital learning in schools, while also encouraging students to become more confident and innovative users of technology.
The Commissioner also used the occasion to call on other sons and daughters of Katsina State who have made progress in their various fields to remember their communities and give back in ways that can support the development of education and the wider society.
In his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr Aminu Wada Maida, explained that the intervention was designed to support the academic growth of the beneficiaries and help prepare them for an increasingly digital world.
He encouraged the students and pupils to make good use of the devices, take their studies seriously and develop their ICT skills, urging them to think creatively and use technology to develop ideas and solutions that can make a positive difference in society.
Dr Maida added that the intervention was also intended to support the Katsina State Government under the leadership of Malam Dikko Umaru Radda in advancing its education and future-oriented development initiatives.
Earlier, the Head of Project, NCC, Alhaji Shuaibu Suwade, demonstrated some of the educational platforms available on the laptops and tablets. He explained that the devices provide access to educational resources and come with 100 megabytes of data, aimed at supporting students’ access to digital learning.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity, use the devices responsibly and make them valuable tools for learning, research and personal development.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Chairman, Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr Kabir Magaji Gafia, expressed appreciation to the NCC and Dr Aminu Wada Maida for the intervention.
Dr Kabir Gafia said the gesture would further complement the Katsina State Government’s efforts to strengthen the education sector and provide learners with the tools they need to succeed in a changing world.
He urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the devices and use them primarily for educational purposes, stressing that the laptops and tablets should be seen not only as gifts, but as valuable opportunities to learn, grow and prepare for the future.
