Peace Dialogue Held with Bandit Groups in Kankara

A peace dialogue involving government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars and representatives of bandit groups was held in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday.

The meeting commenced at about 2:00 p.m. but was disrupted by a storm and heavy rainfall, forcing participants to end the gathering before all the planned proceedings could be concluded. Despite the interruption, speeches were delivered and a number of important commitments and resolutions were reached towards promoting peace and security in the area.

Among the bandit representatives who attended the meeting were Buzare from Danmusa, Ado Aleru from Zamfara State, Sanusi Dan Dutsinma from Kankara, Mustapha Babaro from Kankara, Idi Malabaiye from Kankara, Manore from Safana, as well as representatives of Idi Kwashen Garwa.

Government representatives included the chairmen of Kankara, Faskari and Bakori Local Government Areas, alongside a representative of Malumfashi Local Government Area.

The traditional institution was represented by the Hakimi of Kankara, retired Justice Adamu Bello, together with his council of traditional title holders. Also present were the representative of the Kanwan Katsina, the Hakimi of Ketare, and members of their respective councils.

Islamic clerics and scholars from both the Tariqa and Izala groups also attended the meeting, offering prayers and guidance on the importance of peace, reconciliation and security.

The dialogue was held at a farm known as Gonar Bala Dabo, located along the Katoge road, approximately three kilometres from Kankara town.

During the meeting, Fulani leaders spoke on ways to sustain the peace process and ensure lasting stability in the area. Islamic scholars offered prayers and counsel, while traditional community leaders and other stakeholders made appeals for cooperation and urged all parties to work together towards ending insecurity.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by stakeholders to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence in communities affected by insecurity in the region.
