A fresh wave of violence has rocked Southern Kaduna, with more than 30 people reportedly killed after armed attackers invaded Narido community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The deadly assault, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, has triggered renewed concerns over the worsening security situation across the region, prompting the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) to call for urgent intervention by security agencies.

According to the union, the attackers unleashed terror on the community, killing over 30 residents, including women and children, while leaving several others injured. The incident is said to be one of the latest in a series of violent attacks that have continued to plague rural communities in Southern Kaduna.

Reacting to the development, SOKAPU appealed to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police to immediately deploy tactical security assets to vulnerable communities to prevent further bloodshed.

The appeal was contained in an open letter dated July 27, 2026, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, with copies sent to Governor Uba Sani and other relevant authorities. The letter was made available to journalists by the National President of SOKAPU, Engr. Samuel Tabara Kato.

In the correspondence, Kato expressed deep concern over what he described as the escalating wave of killings, kidnappings and destruction of farmlands across Southern Kaduna, warning that the situation was becoming increasingly alarming for residents.

While acknowledging the efforts of the police and ongoing security operations in the state, SOKAPU noted that several communities in Kajuru, Chikun, Kauru and Zangon Kataf local government areas continue to face repeated attacks from armed groups.

The union lamented that countless families have been forced to flee their ancestral homes, while many farmers now live in fear of being attacked, kidnapped or killed while tending to their farmlands.

According to SOKAPU, the persistent violence requires a more aggressive security strategy rather than the current reactive approach.

“The current incidents of violence demand a sharp departure from reactive responses to aggressive and proactive law enforcement,” the union stated.

The group urged the police command to immediately deploy mobile police personnel and counter-terrorism units to identified flashpoints and vulnerable forest corridors frequently used by criminal elements.

It also called for intensified security patrols around farming communities to ensure residents can cultivate, weed and harvest crops without fear of attacks or abductions.

Beyond increased deployments, SOKAPU advocated for intelligence-driven operations aimed at identifying and dismantling criminal hideouts before attacks occur, stressing that preventive measures are crucial to ending the cycle of violence.

The union further appealed for stronger communication channels between security agencies and local communities, including quicker responses to distress calls, saying such measures would help rebuild public trust and improve security coordination.

Reaffirming that the protection of lives and property remains the government's foremost responsibility, SOKAPU expressed confidence that the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police would act swiftly on its appeal to halt the rising insecurity and prevent further tragedies in Southern Kaduna.
